A is for Apron

I have admired the work of Dutch artist  Hinke Schreuders for some time.  Her embroidery on paper shows up on Pinterest frequently, and I decided that I would try my hand at altering an image using machine stitching and hand stitching.

While cleaning at my aunt's house, I came across a drawer of old patterns.   This apron pattern caught my eye:

I scanned the image, printed it on card stock and started with a layer of machine stitching.  I am now adding layers of hand stitching, fabric pieces and trims.  I can tell that this little project is going to take much more time than I had expected.  It will be a good project to continue to work on while on traveling on vacation.

Note to self:  find some heavier threads to work into this project...

  1. What a fun and creative idea! I like the addition of trims and fabric to give it an even more tactile feel.
