Cat Cards

Now that Arrianne is off at college, I feel the need to create mail art!  Last night I sat down and made 3 cards that will fit together to make a picture:

House #1

I was signed up to participate in our church bazaar in September.  Until a few days ago, I didn't have a clue about what I would make for it.  Procrastination is my middle name!  My dear husband suggested I paint some little houses.  I've made these over the years as birthday/mother's day/special occasion cards for family members.  He had a bit of wood in the garage and went right out to cut up houses for painting.  So, I guess I am painting house "cards"!  If I do one every day, by September 16th I'll have a nice little village.  If they don't sell, I'll have a ton of cards for family for the coming year.  Sounds like a win / win for me!

Corks: Carving Stamps

At the library on Wednesday, a group of us carved corks into stamps.  I boiled the corks for 10 minutes before using an Xacto knife to cut the design.  The resin corks are easily cut as is.  They are much like using the soft cut instead of linoleum for blocks.

The only issue with the resin corks is that the hole from removing the cork from the bottle is not very forgiving and creates a bit of a bump in the middle of the design.  My sunshine stamp ended up looking like little eyes!  I like!!

Oslo - The Fishermen

While in Oslo I took a couple of pictures of a mural on a building.  Now that I am home, I find that it was a mural designed by Picasso and was executed in concrete by Norwegian artist Carl Nesjar.  If I would have known before going, I would have found the other 4 murals.  Now I have a reason to return! (Like I need a reason...)

Inspiration hit, and now I have a new fish stamp in the style of Picasso:

Home

I do so love to travel - the people, the food, the sights, being away from distractions, no cell phone...  The list could go on and on.  Now I am home, with no travel plans for the rest of the year.  It is a good time to organize photos, work on new design ideas and finish some started projects.

I have not worked in my garden this summer.  Today, I must do something with the indigo plants.  The weeds can continue to feed the bees - there is a beautiful clump of golden rod blooming.  There are tomatoes begging to be picked and very soon the apple trees will need attention.

For now, goodbye Sweden and Norway... I will miss you.

It caught my eye / Uppsala

Crazy Women #3 - January cover girl...

A friend of mine, Florence B, gave me a fabric calendar many years ago to use in my art work.  For this little lady, I used "January" and highlighted my birthday!

Holy Trinity Church / Uppsala Sweden

We were able to slip in to this church for a few pictures.  It appeared that a group of teens were arriving for some type of rehearsal as they were chatting and one was playing Queen's, We are the Champions, on the organ.  Teens are teens no matter where you are!

Uppsala Sweden Cathedral Treasury Museum

We spent an hour viewing a fabulous collection at the cathedral in Uppsala. Some of the textiles dated to the 13th century.
