In May of 2010, my son went into the Army. He had started college in the fall of 2009, but just wasn't ready to buckle down. As my husband was career military, he encouraged Jes to sign up. It wasn't long until I realized that he really needed the Army and the discipline. While trying to dream up a quilt to enter into "It's Good For You" (International Quilt Festival 2011), it hit me like a ton of bricks... the Army has been very good for my son. I jumped in and created a stencil from a photo taken at Basic Graduation.
I also free motioned the Soldier's Creed:
To finish the quilt, I found camo fabric and covered the quilt with stamping, stenciling, and free motion quilting.
My son is still in the Army, serving in Germany at this time.
This is really awesome! I really like how you made the quilt so personal & meaningful.

Always loved this quilt.
ReplyDeleteDoes your son have this quilt or is it there for you so you can keep him close when he's away? Once again another wonderful quilt. I am totally in awe of your skills! Special Teaching at Pempi’s Palace
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is at home... He is currently in Germany and travels light. Thank you for your kind words.
